What is a boletín eléctrico and when do you need one?
Viva Home Air · Updated October 2026
A boletín eléctrico (CIE) is the official certificate confirming a property's electrical installation meets Spain's REBT safety regulations. You typically need one to connect or reconnect power, after a rewire or panel upgrade, to increase your contracted power, or when selling or renting. Only an authorised electrician can issue it — it costs from about €120.
When you need a boletín
You'll be asked for one to set up a new electricity supply, to reconnect a supply that's been cut off for over a certain period, after any significant electrical work (rewire, consumer-unit change), to raise your contracted power (potencia), and often by buyers, lawyers or insurers when a property changes hands.
What the electrician checks
The installation's wiring, earthing, protection devices (MCBs, RCDs), load capacity and overall compliance with the REBT (Reglamento Electrotécnico de Baja Tensión). If something fails, it must be fixed before the certificate can be issued — which is the point: it certifies the installation is safe.
What it costs
A boletín starts from around €120. A full inspection with a written report typically runs from about €200. If remedial work is needed (for example a consumer-unit upgrade from roughly €450), that's quoted separately.
Frequently asked questions
Who can issue a boletín eléctrico?
Only an electrician or company registered as an authorised installer (instalador autorizado) with the regional industry authority. A registered firm issues and lodges it for you.
How long is a boletín valid?
For a new supply it's generally accepted for a set period before connection; for compliance it reflects the installation's state at inspection. If you do more electrical work, you'll usually need a new one.
